Qld Winter Carnival Calling Zipping Megatron

Sydney trainer Jason Magri has his sights set on the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival over the next eight weeks with Zipping Megatron.

Zipping Megatron is the latest big name to be locked in for the rich Queensland Winter Greyhound Carnival which kicks off later this month.

The Jason Magri-trained chaser scored the biggest win of his short career last Saturday night when recoding a 7-3/4 length romp in the Group 3 Bob Payne Sprint.

The victory ended a run of second placings which included the semi and final of the Golden Easter Egg which was won by another Queensland-bound dog, Mackenna.

"I'm giving him a week to 10 days off then we'll head up to Brisbane to trial him before having a crack at the Flying Amy," Magri said.

"I'm looking to campaign him up north for the next couple of months.

"I'm hoping he'll get picked to represent NSW in the State Of Origin and then there's also the Brisbane Cup.

"They are the three events we're going to target."

As much as $900,000 can be won if a dog is successful in the three races – $225,000 Group 1 Flying Amy Classic ($150,000-to-the-winner), $150,000 Group 3 State Of Origin Sprint ($100,000-to-the-winner) and the $1 million Group 1 Brisbane Cup ($650,000-to-the-winner).

Zipping Megatron is only 28-months old and the son of Superior Panama has won nine of his 14 starts.

Magri hopes the dog's first interstate trip could prove to fruitful with a difference between the boxes in Queensland compared with his home state of NSW.

"The boxes are different at Albion Park so it's a track you need to have a look at," Magri said.

"At Wentworth Park he lacks that yard early but I actually think he might be the sort of dog that begins better interstate with the bigger grills on the boxes. I'm hoping that's the case anyway.

"He's an adaptable dog and I think he'll handle the track no problems.

"There's a lot of money on offer during the carnival so I want to tick all the boxes. I don't want to go into the series blind."
